LAWFF 2025 Unveiling Event Marks a Milestone in Advancing Women in Africa’s Food System
The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship (LAWFF) marked a significant milestone on March 10, 2025, with the successful unveiling of its 2025 cohort, comprising 32 exceptional women driving innovation and sustainability in Africa’s food and agriculture sector. Held under the theme “Accelerate Action: Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future,” the event convened industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates to discuss actionable strategies for advancing gender equality and amplifying women’s voices in the food system.
A Call for Bold Action
Delivering the keynote address, Aggie Kondie set the tone with a powerful speech on, she highlighted the urgency of implementing measurable strategies to bridge the gender gap in food and agriculture, emphasizing collaboration, leadership, and policy engagement as critical drivers of change.
The keynote was followed by an inspiring session from V. Sheree Williams, who spoke on “Redefining Power in Agriculture: Women’s Voices as Catalysts for Change.” Her presentation underscored the transformative power of storytelling in reshaping perceptions, influencing policy, and positioning women at the center of Africa’s food system. She emphasized the importance of documenting and amplifying women’s experiences as a vital tool for advocacy and systemic transformation.
Launch of the Leading AgriWomen Voices (LAV) Book
A key highlight of the event was the official launch of the Leading AgriWomen Voices (LAV) Book by Ndidi Nwuneli, founder of LAWFF. The book serves as a vital advocacy tool designed to elevate women’s voices, challenge gender biases, and drive systemic transformation in agriculture. It captures the stories, innovations, and leadership journeys of women across the sector, positioning them as key players in Africa’s agricultural and economic growth.
Speaking on the book’s significance, Nwuneli urged participants to actively contribute to shaping narratives. “There is an urgent need to accelerate action; change won’t wait. Our stories are powerful catalysts for change,” she emphasized.
Looking Ahead
The event also featured key contributions from Temi Adegoroye, who delivered the opening address, Aisha Hadejia, who officially unveiled the 2025 LAWFF fellows, and Adanna Imafidor, who gave the closing remarks. The event was expertly moderated by Anna Mambula.
With the induction of 32 new fellows, LAWFF continues to strengthen its mission of empowering women in agriculture through mentorship, skills development, and leadership opportunities.
