The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship is an ambitious program aimed at supporting changemakers who are making outstanding contributions/impact in the African food ecosystem. This initiative amplifies, celebrates, champions, and advances the work of these female food changemakers.
Boitumelo Sharon Motshegoa is a dynamic and rising force in the African food ecosystem, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation to create compelling culinary experiences. A trained and qualified chef at a renowned Belgian restaurant in Cape Town, she specializes in developing distinctive recipes that celebrate authentic African ingredients while thoughtfully integrating global culinary techniques and influences.
Deeply inspired by the flavors she grew up with, Boitumelo is passionate about preserving and elevating African food heritage. Her work reflects a commitment to showcasing the depth, diversity, and sophistication of African cuisine—demonstrating its relevance and appeal within contemporary global gastronomy.
Her journey is marked by resilience, courage, and excellence. In 2021, she was selected as one of only 15 participants nationwide for the highly competitive Eat Out Magazine Learnership Programme, an initiative designed to equip unemployed youth with professional culinary and media skills. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Boitumelo relocated independently from Mabopane, Pretoria, to Cape Town—navigating uncertainty with determination and focus. Her dedication and performance earned her recognition as the Overall Achiever of the programme.
Beyond the kitchen, Boitumelo is a powerful advocate for African food narratives. Through her craft, she challenges stereotypes, elevates indigenous ingredients, and creates space for African culinary traditions to be appreciated on the global stage. She also serves as an inspiration to emerging chefs and food enthusiasts, encouraging them to embrace African cuisine with pride, creativity, and confidence.
Driven by purpose and a deep respect for her roots, Boitumelo Sharon Motshegoa continues to shape a new generation of African culinary excellence, where heritage meets innovation and local flavors command global recognition.
