The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship is an ambitious program aimed at supporting changemakers who are making outstanding contributions/impact in the African food ecosystem. This initiative amplifies, celebrates, champions, and advances the work of these female food changemakers.
Chancelle Bamuhaye is a youth and girls’ rights advocate and the Founder and Executive Director of Hope for a Better Future Organization, a youth-led initiative empowering vulnerable children and young girls, particularly in rural areas, indigenous communities, and displaced camps, to access fundamental human rights. Since age 16, Chancelle has led community projects that promote youth leadership, behavioural change, and social inclusion, improving living conditions for the most marginalized populations.
Her exceptional contributions have earned widespread recognition. She received the Young People’s Best Project Award from the President of Burundi on International Youth Day 2024, and in March 2024, was among eight women honored by UN-OCHA in Southern and Eastern Africa for her transformative community work. She is also a certified Champion of Girls’ Education by the African Union/CIEFFA. In May 2022, Chancelle represented Burundi at a private audience with Pope Francis in Rome, where young global change-makers shared their visions for a better world.
Through her leadership, Chancelle continues to advance child and girls’ rights, empower youth voices, and drive sustainable social change across Burundi and the broader region.
