The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship is an ambitious program aimed at supporting changemakers who are making outstanding contributions/impact in the African food ecosystem. This initiative amplifies, celebrates, champions, and advances the work of these female food changemakers.
Fiona Njeri Macharia is a leader in sustainable agriculture and food security in Kenya. As the Founder & CEO of Kiasili Farm, she promotes Indigenous and Traditional Food Crops (ITFCs) to enhance nutrition, biodiversity, and economic opportunities for smallholder farmers, especially women, youth, and those with disabilities.
Her initiatives include climate-smart agricultural training, a digital marketplace for farmers, and a food waste recycling program, which composts organic waste to support sustainable farming. Under her leadership, Kiasili Farm has impacted over 104 households, supported 87 farmers, and aims to expand waste recycling to 15 tons annually.
Fiona’s work aligns with SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 5 (Gender Equality), and 13 (Climate Action) and has earned her the President’s Fellowship for Kiambu County and the Global Citizen Award by the Ban Ki-moon Centre.
