The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship is an ambitious program aimed at supporting changemakers who are making outstanding contributions/impact in the African food ecosystem. This initiative amplifies, celebrates, champions, and advances the work of these female food changemakers.
Gugulethu Tarakini is an agroecologist and biodiversity conservation leader specializing in pollinator conservation to improve crop productivity and build resilient food systems. Through her organisation, Research and Education for Sustainable Actions (RESA), she leads research, education, and community-based conservation initiatives that advance sustainable agriculture, ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity protection.
Gugulethu has established a beekeeping social enterprise within RESA that integrates indigenous forest conservation with livelihood creation. The initiative strengthens bee pollinator populations, supports ecological restoration, and helps meet national honey demand, demonstrating how conservation and agribusiness can work in synergy.
A strong advocate for science-driven solutions, Gugulethu holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Agroecology and an MSc in Agroforestry from Chinhoyi University of Technology. Her work bridges research and practice, positioning pollinators as central to climate resilience, food security, and sustainable agricultural transformation in Africa.
