2023 Leading African women in Food Fellowship (LAWFF) Program

The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship is an ambitious program aimed at supporting changemakers who are making outstanding contributions/impact in the African food ecosystem. This initiative amplifies, celebrates, champions, and advances the work of these female food changemakers.

Laila Ayman Mahmoud

Laila is a passionate bioscience researcher with a focus on leveraging technological advancements to improve human life and the environment. This passion drives her to develop interdisciplinary solutions and manage projects in biomedicine, biotechnology, and agriculture. 

In 2022, Laila leveraged her experiences in R&D, entrepreneurship, and management to co-found Mesori Tech, an agricultural technology company that develops smart farming and precision agriculture solutions to support food security and accelerate the transition to sustainable agriculture. Laila's dedication to women's empowerment, particularly in STEM fields and rural areas, is evident in her role as the Special Programs Advisor at SudoTechs. In this capacity, she actively contributes to the design and implementation of education and employability training programs for women. 

Her accomplishments have garnered recognition in various arenas. She was acknowledged by Raconteur UK in The Sunday Times as one of the promising African entrepreneurs working towards Africa's future. She has also received accolades from GIZ Egypt for her entrepreneurial endeavors. Additionally, she has been awarded by the European Institute of Technology and Innovation for her innovative research in utilizing aquaculture and agriculture waste to develop eco-friendly materials. 

Laila's expertise and contributions have led to invitations to prestigious events, such as her participation as a panelist at the 12th Africa Day International Conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia in collaboration with the European Commission and the Chatham House Institute.
