FELLOW

Uzoamaka Izukanne Igweike, known as Uzo, is the founder and Managing Director of Loom Craft Chocolate, an artisanal cocoa processing company based in Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and has furthered her education in Business Administration at the Alliance Manchester Business School. Before venturing into the chocolate industry, Uzo had a successful 12-year career as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) consultant, specializing in SAP Business Process Consulting for Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies in Nigeria. Her passion for baking, coupled with the challenge of sourcing quality and affordable chocolate locally, inspired her to explore chocolate production. In 2016, a simple Google search on making chocolate at home ignited her journey into the world of chocolate making.

Under her leadership, Loom Craft Chocolate has made significant strides in the Nigerian chocolate industry. The company focuses on sustainability by sourcing cocoa directly from smallholder farmers across six states, ensuring traceability and fair value. They have expanded their product distribution to over 100 stores nationwide, making their chocolate accessible to individuals, bakers, and businesses.

Additionally, Uzo has been instrumental in conducting practical training on post-harvest processing for over 1,060 cocoa farmers, enhancing the quality of cocoa beans and improving farmers' livelihoods. Uzo's innovative approach and commitment to transforming Nigeria's cocoa resources into world-class chocolate products have positioned her as a leading figure in the African food industry. Her efforts not only contribute to the local economy but also empower communities and promote sustainable practices, making her a strong candidate for recognition among leading African women in food.
