The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship is an ambitious program aimed at supporting changemakers who are making outstanding contributions/impact in the African food ecosystem. This initiative amplifies, celebrates, champions, and advances the work of these female food changemakers.
Yasmeen Mohamed Amin is a dynamic leader and expert in agricultural innovation, digitalization, and sustainable food systems. Her journey began with leadership at Enactus Cairo, where she guided a team of 12 students to establish a sustainable social enterprise, earning international recognition in the 2019 Enactus competition.
Following graduation, Yasmeen held dual roles, consulting with GIZ Egypt and supporting initiatives at the Ministry of Environment and a UNDP project, before joining a local NGO to implement development projects for HIVOS, UN Women, and the World Bank in Upper Egypt. These initiatives empowered over ten business units, promoting startups in agricultural entrepreneurship and supporting local economic development.
Currently, as a Communication & Digitalization Advisor at GIZ, Yasmeen leads efforts to integrate digital agricultural applications for marketing, satellite mapping, crop monitoring, food security, and smart farming. She also represents Egypt in the African Youth Reference Committee with the African Union, contributing to continental research and workshops on youth engagement, food systems, and innovation.
Over the past three years, Yasmeen has coordinated agridigital initiatives to leverage digital solutions in enhancing agricultural and food systems, including developing communication materials to help smallholder farmers adopt best practices.
Through outreach platforms, she and her team have engaged over 500,000 smallholder farmers, directly benefiting 10,000 farmers, providing critical resources and knowledge to improve productivity and strengthen sustainable farming practices.
Yasmeen’s work bridges digital innovation, policy, and community engagement, advancing Africa’s agricultural transformation and empowering smallholder farmers with tools to succeed in a modernized, resilient food ecosystem.
